  • B

Visible Decision Making

Contested resources are a fact of life. Contested outcomes are a sign that people aren’t getting enough information. Valid Eval provides stakeholder-appropriate insight into the deliberation process so that everyone can understand how decisions were made.

The system is based on widely accepted principles of cognitive and behavioral science, and built around robust rubrics — carefully defined performance standards and criteria. Developed in collaboration with experts in the field, Valid Eval’s rubrics are easy for evaluators to understand and apply. They simply log into the system, record their feedback and scores on specific aspects of the presentation or application with a few clicks, and leave optional comments.

The system reveals how and why evaluators came to their decisions. Heat maps and other data visualizations display detailed information about the relative importance of specific scores. They also reveal areas in which evaluators agree or disagree about how, or how well, a competitor meets specific criteria.

  • C

High Score & Low Score quickly identifies the strongest supporter and strongest detractor, setting the stage for discourse.
  • D

The Most Contested Dimension(s) further helps guide the discussion to specific topic areas.

Defensible Outcomes

Even in organizations otherwise governed by metrics, too many scoring systems rely solely on subjective impressions. Valid Eval is an evidence-based system that exposes logic and reduces subjectivity, minimizing the role that bias can play in any outcome. It prompts carefully considered expert opinions, produces highly detailed verification data, and consolidates, documents and stores all this information for rapid retrieval. The whole process increases accountability for decisions and confidence in outcomes.

The system can automatically assign evaluation tasks according to evaluators’ subject-matter expertise, so you can be sure that evaluators spend their time in working in the areas of interest to them. It prompts scores based on both direct observation and measurable criteria within the rubric, which is designed specifically to reduce or counteract subjective input. This takes less time than the typical multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank score sheet approach, and it results in richer input and more carefully considered assessments.

Each assessment is placed in the context of parallel, often simultaneous, evaluator judgments. This way, you can see not only what goes into each score, but also how to efficiently make sense of potentially divergent evaluations. The system maximizes rigor and consistency without sacrificing convenience or efficiency.

  • E

Here 4 judges scores are summarized. Quickly jump to see any Individual Evaluation using the dropdown.
  • F

The darkest areas show areas of strongest agreement among evaluators in the Heat Map.

Actionable Feedback

Winners rarely wonder why they won, but runners-up look for an acceptable explanation of loss, as well as guidance about what they can do differently in the future. The system synthesizes sometimes diverse responses to a performance or application and puts them in context, so participants get clear, concise feedback they can quickly comprehend, prioritize and act upon.

In addition to quantitative information, participants can take advantage of practical suggestions and direct feedback. Valid Eval aggregates this feedback and displays it in an easy-to-absorb and understand way. Users can browse a summary screen, drill down for more detail about each evaluator’s assessment, or toggle back and forth between the two views.

Heat maps reveal areas of agreement and disagreement among evaluators, so competitors can draw informed decisions about next steps in their development. And because Valid Eval assigns evaluators based on their areas of expertise, competitors know the feedback is credible and trustworthy.
